We have seen facial mists grow in popularity in 2025, but with so many options on the market, it can be tricky to figure out which one is right for your skin. Different face mists serve different purposes, and not every mist will suit everyone.
Keep reading to discover why incorporating a face mist into your routine is beneficial, the best times to use one, and some of my top picks that are worth adding to your skincare routine.
Why Use a Face Mist
A face mist is a simple, effective way to keep your skin hydrated, refreshed, and balanced throughout the day. Unlike heavier creams, mists deliver lightweight moisture that absorbs quickly, making them perfect to use over or under makeup. They can soothe sensitive skin, cool you down after sun exposure or exercise, and give you that instant boost of radiance. Many face mists also include antioxidants or calming ingredients, providing extra protection against environmental stressors.
When to Use a Face Mist
Face mists are incredibly versatile and can be used anytime your skin needs a little refresh. I tend to use them:
After cleansing my skin - by applyig a water-based mist while my face is still damp as it gives me an extra boost of moisture.
Post-workout - I often reach for it after an intense workout when I can't shower right away - it's the quickest way to cool me down and it reduces redness.
As the last step in my makeup routine - a quick mist helps seal my makeup into place and leaves it feeling dewy and lightweight.
So, to help you find the right facial mist, here are my favourites.
1.Best water-based face mist for all skin types - Avène Thermal Spring Water

My everyday go-to! This classic mist is enriched with Avène’s gentle thermal spring water, perfect for sensitive skin. Its low mineral content and neutral pH make it soothing and safe for all skin types.
It also works wonders on reducing the side effects of the treatments of skin conditions (acne, eczema, atopic eczema, psoriasis, etc.).
Due to its extra-gentle formula, it is also suitable for babies and it has been proven to reduce nappy rash redness by 76%!
2.Best barrier-restoring face mist - BYOMA Balancing Face Mist
Thanks to its lightweight and pH-balanced formula, the BYOMA Balancing Face Mist instantly hydrates and soothes the skin barrier.
A while back, I stuggled with a patch of eczema that left my skin quite red and irritated and using this mist daily helped calm the irritation and improved my skin barrier significantly.
Most of the ingredients, including ceramides, glycerin, beta-glucans, and probiotic ferments, are gentle and safe for acne-prone or sensitive skin. However, oleic acid can be slightly comedogenic for some individuals, so I do recommend patch testing if your skin is prone to breakouts.
If you tend to buy unscented skincare, just a heads up that this product might have a silight scent to it, unlike the Avene Thermal Spring Water.
3.Best face mist for oily skin - La Roche Posay Serozinc
I first purchased the La Roche-Posay Serozinc spray during my trip to France in 2022, and it's become a staple in my routine, especially during the luteal phase of my cycle when my skin feels extra oily.
Since this face mist is specifically designed for oily and acne-prone skin, as it contains zinc sulphate, it really helps in reducing excess shine and keeps the pores from feeling clogged. The sodium chloride also gives the skin a matte finish without over-drying the skin. I tend to apply it right after cleansing, let it absorb for a few minutes and gently pat dry any excess product.
Zinc is generally gentle and safe for most skin types, but there are a few things to keep in mind when combining it with other products. Avoid layering zinc with strong acids, high-strength retinoids, or alcohol-heavy toners at the same time, as this can sometimes cause excess dryness and irritation. For best results, use zinc mists separately to soothe and refresh your skin, and pair them with gentle, hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, or ceramides.
4.Best face mist for dry & sensitive skin - Caudalie Grape Water Spray
Anyone who knows me will tell you that I'm a sucker for anything Caudalie, so I had to include the Caudalie Grape Water on here!
It's packed with minerals and antioxidants, which makes it a great addition for those looking to add an extra boost of hydration to their skincare routine. It is also gentle enough for dry and sensitive skin, and it helps soothe rosacea symptoms.
Similar to the Avene Thermal Spring Water, it's quite versatile and it can be applied throughout the day, as a toner, or a setting spray.
5.Best face mist for an extra dewy finish - Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist
The Glow Recipe Watermelon Mist is another exceptional product that I would always recommend! Unlike the other mists I've mentioned above, its bi-phase formula combines a nourishing oil layer with water-based active extacts, which in turn leave skin looking naturally dewy.
Its formula is free from parabens, sulfates, silicones, phthalates, mineral oil, drying alcohols, and synthetic dyes. It only uses less than 0.5% fragrance, which is just the right amount to give a light, enjoyable scent without irritating sensitive skin. However, if you prefer to stick to unscented skincare products, this might not be suitable for you.
These are my current top 5 facial mist recommendations, but I’m always on the hunt for new products, so make sure to keep an eye out for new&exciting finds!
